Hi ,
According to Domain's End of Year Wrap, Australia has smashed property records in 2021 racking up the highest number of house sales. 2021 also saw the fastest rate of annual house price growth on record at 21.9 per cent.
Records were also broken with house auctions. A staggering 115,600 houses were earmarked in 2021 to go under the hammer.
With the effect of the pandemic also influencing buyer choice, lifestyle options also became a focus in 2021. People placed a greater emphasis on where they want to live and the lifestyle that accompanies that. The pandemic has not only driven a lifestyle shift but a social shift, expanding people's buying options outside of city living driving many to regional areas.
The pandemic has forced many to spend more time at home which has influenced purchasing decisions, location and architectural preferences with keywords such as "pool", "garden" and "courtyard" among the most popular online house searches.
2022 is set to continue to tip in the buyer's favour with the housing market holding strong and providing much choice for people wanting to buy. Tighter lending might see the brakes on price growth but it is anticipated that population growth and the opening of borders will keep the market buoyant.
