Hi ,
A mega-transport project is due to commence before 2025 and is predicted to reshape inner and outer Melbourne as well as generate thousands of jobs, amenities, retail outlets and new houses.
The 90km rail line will link every major line to Werribee via Melbourne Airport. It is hoped that this major infrastructure project will connect Victorians to jobs, retail and educational options, health services and to each other.
The plans are extensive and involve rail changes to the East of Melbourne (Cheltenham to Box Hill), the North of Melbourne (Box Hill to Melbourne Airport) and the West of Melbourne (Melbourne Airport to Werribee).
Stage one of the project, which will involve the East of Melbourne, will see trains expected to run between Box Hill and Cheltenham from 2035. Other suburbs that will be affected as part of stage one are Clayton, Burwood, Monash, Glen Waverley and Mt Waverley.
It is anticipated that construction will cause moderate disruptions to local traffic, as well as noise and vibrations for residents and businesses due to most of the work being largely underground.
As part of this initial development, there will be up to 300 houses that will need to be acquired for construction to begin. Whilst a difficult situation for those impacted, residents not affected by the project in these suburbs will benefit from the increased connectivity and improved livability. This, in turn, can improve the value of a suburb and make people want to live there.
